This comet was discovered in 2014 by Terry Lovejoy with a small 8in telescope. Although close and bright at the time it actually takes over 11,000 years to make one single orbit around the sun. It's thought this comet originated from the Oort cloud, a cloud at the farthest extent of our solar system that is mostly made up of comet like this one. The blue green tail is the result of organic molecules locked inside for millennia only now being boiled away and released by the harsh light of the sun.
