"Super Blood Wolf Moon" (Total Lunar Eclipse in Cancer). In this shot, every sunset and every sunrise is seen cast on the face of our largest natural satellite, the Moon. This is caused by Earth passing between the Sun and the full Moon. When this happens the only light able to reach the moon is that which passes and refracts through our atmosphere. As it does so the light reddens, exactly like sunset, giving the Moon its “blood” red color. The “wolf” in the name refers to the first full Moon of the year in the Farmers’ Almanac.
